It never occurred to me not to self-publish my books. For one thing, I’m far too impatient to wait years for a finished product. Besides, anything I read of the pros and cons of traditional vs self-publishing was never able to make a clear-cut case, for me, for trying to go the traditional route. In fact, it began to look like a soul-sucking, demoralizing, unsatisfying process for most people.
So that left either self-publishing or hybrid/vanity presses (most are presses that self-pubilsh for you). This lead to more research that often suggested you had to be very wary if you wanted to trust someone else with your precious book. While there are certainly some wonderful presses who follow through on what they say they will do, there are as many, possibly more, who take advantage of vulnerable, first-time authors. The cost to you and your book can sometimes be higher than their, nothing to sneeze at, fee.
I’d be lying if I said self-publishing was easy. But I’d also be lying if I said it was hard. It lies somewhere in between. It can be frustrating at times. It can be daunting at others. But I find that if I take my time, and don’t try to rush it, I am more than capable of doing it myself.
The added bonus of DIY, is that the costs are FREE to minimal. Watch my video for more information.
And then you have a whole new level of accomplishment to add to writing your own books.
Self-publishing your book
Coaching
I was asked to teach a one-hour zoom class on what I knew about self-publishing for the Hawaii Writer’s Guild. They were kind enough to edit it, and put it up on YouTube. Click on the link above to view.
If you sign up for my mailing list, I’m happy to send you a copy of a document with the notes I made for myself (so I don’t have to re-invent the wheel every time I publish a new book). It goes into some detail about all the different steps in your self-publishing journey.
It also includes many resources that I have found helpful.
*********
If after reading the document you would still like assistance with the process, I can:
1) Help you write the blurb (not write it for you, but dialogue with you to help you complete it).
2) Take you step-by-step through the whole self-publishing process. Including sending you to outside resources that I use for things like editing, the cover and formatting.
3) Take you step-by-step through the KDP process (this uploads your book for sale on amazon).
4) Use my copy of Publisher Rocket to help you determine keywords and categories.
Due to the time consuming nature of these 4 steps, I ask for a $300 fee if you would like my assistance.
