Day 36 - Melide, 14 miles

It is such a privilege to be able to walk for so long that you get to watch Spring turn into Summer.  There is a decided difference in not only the temperature, but the feel of the air.

Galicia seems to be the place of morning mists…

I walked out with a group of 5 people I met and had dinner with last night.  Paul, a very kind Englishman, kind of watched out for me for a while as it takes a bit for my feet to ‘warm up’…

There was one magical corridor of trees, where  the morning light created a glow… I was overcome with gratitude for this entire experience, that I have the resources (time, money, healthyish body) to do this.

I took a picture this morning of a typical little sign and yellow arrow that we look out for to guide us on the right path…there are many, many variations of this… But the path is very well marked, especially here in Galicia.

I was walking down a country lane today with an old man tending a large garden on one side, and an old woman walking slowly (same speed as me) towards me with a bag of groceries.  She had on ‘sensible’ shoes, a full apron tied around her waist and a sun hat.  As she approached we made eye contact and couldn’t look away…we smiled at each other, with hand gestures and the few words of Spanish I know, I tried to tell her what a beautiful vision she made…she in turn was trying to tell me something in Spanish…the beautiful smile on her face told me all I needed to know…we parted reluctantly, each wishing we could have conveyed more…as I walked away, the word ‘Grace’ came into my mind, I felt I had been kissed by an Angel.

I have one more marathon day tomorrow (16 miles dear God) then two short ones… Unfortunately there are some long stretches with no accommodations, so you just have to work your itinerary around them… I’m frankly a little scared of tomorrow as I had a bad day with my feet today…but am hoping for a miracle….32.5 miles to go…..
