Camino 2024 - Day 6 - Los Arcos

The Camino can be a microcosm of life. We meet new friends, sometimes go deep, then say goodbye, all within a day or two.

Hello and goodbye to Sylvie from Canada, on the right, yesterday. And goodbye to Pascale, from France, on the left, after 4 days, this morning.

A short day today, only 7 miles. A welcome relief after two days of 12 and 9 1/2 miles.

Or so I thought, I sit here writing this thinking I could easily have kept going today. It’s amazing how fast my body has acclimated to all this walking.

We pass many strange structures on the way. It is fun to guess what they are, who put them there, and why. This one though, remained a bit of a mystery to us.

On this trip, I promised to take my time and stop and smell the roses. It turns out that is happening literally, as I appear to be seeing roses everywhere. This random one in the middle of nowhere next to a field of grapevines

If you want some time for introspection. If you wish to know yourself deeper and more intimately, you might consider a long walk in Spain

This begs the question, “Where is there?”

Here turned out to be “there”.

This little oasis is run by two men from Canada. It turned out one of them lived on the Big Island in 1984, at Wy Wham. And when he first opened the stand in 2016 one of his first customers was a friend of mine, Alia, who has since passed away. Such a small, small world. He is a man of deep Christian faith, and offered to give us a blessing which we gladly received. Both Pascale and I were in tears. The energy was so beautiful.

Arriving in Los Arcos early.

Enjoying a rest and some delicious watermelon while I wait for my Albergue to open. And then said goodbye to Pascale for now. We leave it up to the Universe whether I meet her again on this Camino, or perhaps at her home in France one day.
