Bonjour

After a 40 hour journey, I’m here in St Jean Pied de Port the official start of the Camino Frances.  Upgrading my last flight to business was the best move yet! Helped me sleep and get my body in the right time zone.

Arriving in France, I realized that while I was brushing up on my Spanish, I know about three words in French…at two of the restaurants I stopped in tonight to check out their dinner, and ask if they had a menu in English, they both looked as if they’d bitten into a lemon as they said “no” ..well alrighty then… Before you ask, I have the google translator on my phone… that seemed like a good idea at the time….but as I stood there rummaging for my phone I’m thinking “excuse me while my app loads… Oh and BTW do you have wifi?… and what’s the password?…”in the real world they’re on to the next customer who DOES speak French…

Posting a couple of pictures of this amazingly darling little town taken late in the day so color not so bright….. one pic is taken from the bridge and shows the path meandering along the river that is the official start…don’t be fooled by its benign flat appearance, as you round the corner it goes straight up the mountain for about 12 or more miles.

Ok, off to bed.  I have the day here tomorrow to wait for my friends, we start Friday. So will write more then.
