Day 34 - Vilacha (before Portomarin), 12.5 miles
Today was the day of cow shit! The air was permeated with it, we stepped around it all over the trail… We passed one small local dairy farm after another.
I was out of Sarria quickly today, and in the woods again. The gnarled trunks of the centuries old trees lined the paths as we climbed up and up…
Something about the light this morning was very special…
The trail continued up and down, up and down, through small villages, beautiful lanes, lots of little streams running down the path today, one part was so rocky, muddy and total running water it’s a miracle my shoes made it down dry. I couldn’t take a picture of that part as it took everything just to make it down.
I got to my albergue, run by this awesome South African guy … We’ve been chatting and drinking Tinto Verano (red wine and sparkling lemon) for hours…he’s a dead ringer for Robin Williams…all these movie star look a likes lately😄We were sitting on his couch, when we heard an ‘hola’ at the open front door… With wide eyes, he quickly put his finger to his lips to be quiet, but without knocking, his nosey next door neighbor let herself in, and sat in a chair…they were conversing in Spanish, but at one point as she was busy picking her nose studiously with both hands, I could tell she was teasing him about me, he answered her and suddenly looked at me alarmed and asked if I understood Spanish. I smirked and said no… I didn’t say that I do understand universal body language though …😄
So many beautiful pictures today, here are a few more.
