Ireland - Surprise Castle - day 10

The day started with a cold swim for Jai, the only one brave enough to full-on dunk in the ocean.

It wasn’t only the water that was cold, it was 67 degrees with a brisk wind. But this young man loves the water.

We had a few hours before our flight back to England, so we decided to go in search of another castle. This bridge was so narrow we almost didn’t think our small car would fit.

The GPS or Sat Nav as they call it over here, told us we had arrived at our destination. We drove past once, looking in vain for the castle. How do you miss a castle? So we turned around, and my determined daughter climbed on the stone wall, and voila.

On one side of the road was the ruins of this church, that at some point had been turned into a cemetery. With graves that ranged from the 1700’s to a few years ago.

My favorite sign for the day.

Jai had fallen asleep in the car in our search for the castle. When we got there, he didn’t want to get out so we left him, confident that FOMO would kick in… And it did.😁

On the opposite side of the road from the church was a little hole on top of the stone wall that it looked like people had climbed over so we peered over and saw this path through the wheat field with The castle in the distance.

There were two ways to climb over this fence to get to the castle…😂

The castle was hidden, and overgrown, there were no signs except to enter at your own risk. It was a great find. Castle ruins endlessly spark the imagination.

And now we’re back to England for a few days before our return home.
